The Open Office Suite consists of a word processor which is called Write, spreadsheet package called Calc, a creator of the presentation called Impress, graphic application called Draw, and a database program known as Base. Mostly the Word, Calc, and Impress are the most popular packages of the Open Office. The Open Office is still new for the users, and though it is free but still many people are reluctant to use this application because competing with Microsoft is not easy.

Write
The Write is the word processor of the Open Office, and when you first time open this, it is hard for you to differentiate between Write and MS Word 2003. The interface, layout, and options are same as in word 2003. However there are a few differences which you need to know. If you are a frequent user of MS Word you know that there are some short cuts available in the word, but in Write there are no shortcuts. Besides that Find and Replace functions are also missing.

Calc
The Calc is also just like MS Excel 2003, and most of the functions are similar. The interface and look of the application is also same as in Excel. Like Write, in Calc also various keyboard shortcuts are not working. The formula functions, and other important options are same as in Excel 2003.

Impress
Unlike the Write, and Calc the Impress is not as similar to PowerPoint. Instead of that the Impress is much light weighted. When we use the PowerPoint, we can feel that the software and the options are overloaded, but that is not the case in Impress. However Impress does not have the ability to convert the old PowerPoint files into Open Office files.
